Class & event questions

Do you offer beginner welding classes in the Bay Area?

Yes. Intro to Welding is a 2-hour, beginner-friendly seminar at our Oakland shop, taught by professional welder Aidan Coady. It covers MIG, TIG and stick welding, what each one is best for, welder setup, safety essentials, and how welding fits into car projects like exhaust repairs and rust patches. It’s an intro for hobbyists and DIYers, not a certification course.

What do you cover in Car Basics?

The routine maintenance every driver should know, taught on a real car up on a lift, plus what to check before you buy a used car. No experience needed.

Do you have car maintenance classes for women?

Yes. Ladies Under the Hood is our car maintenance series for women and our most popular class. Sessions cover topics like brakes and rotors, and no experience is needed. Spots fill up fast.

How much do classes cost?

Seminars are free for GaragePass members. Non-members pay a small fee per class, usually $20–$30. You’ll see the price for each class in the signup form.

Do I need experience or my own tools?

No. Just bring yourself and your questions. We have the tools and the lifts.

Where are classes held?

At GaragePass, our DIY auto shop at 950 77th Ave in Oakland, about a 10-minute walk from Coliseum BART. People come from all over the Bay Area. How to find us →

How long are classes and events, and when are they?

Most seminars run about 2 hours. Dates and times for every class and event are in the RSVP form above, and we add new ones all the time.

Are your events free?

Free oil change night is open to everyone, no membership needed. Shop nights are free for members, with a small fee for non-members. RSVP for any event in the form above.
